Footwell / Door courtesy light LED upgrade

Here's an easy upgrade if you are intested in increasing the light ouput and playing with different colors on your footwell lights.

Our footwell lights uses festoon bulbs. The brightest LED festoon bulb I am currently aware of is called "Superstar Superbright Festoon LED bulb" from autolumination.com. They are 10 bucks each. You need 4.

I love blue color so I replaced my stock incandescent footwell lights with one of these superstar LED's.

Done! I am happy with the results. See attached photos.

It is possible also to increase the light output even further by using two of these superstar LED's side by side, solder them together, stuff them inside the footwell light assembly and solder the wires to the connectors (similar to what I've done to the trunk light that I just posted here:

I may do this soon : )

Another worthy upgrade for me. Cheap too! Bulbs by the way are simple plug and play, remove and replace (if you only use one bulb). Removal of footwell light assembly is easy too, takes 1 second flat.

Dan

1 for 1?

So, is it a straight plug and play switch out if I want to do this with only a single bulb in each footwell light?

Yep. Here are the procedures.

Remove footwell light assembly by pushing the plastic assembly housing from the rear to the front using a flathead screw driver.

Push forward, then push down on the screw driver to remove the plastic housing. If it wont come out, do not force it, it may have been installed backwards so try the other way around.

Remove stock bulb and replace with your choice of superstar LED color. That's it!

You can possibly use two superstar LED's but you will have to solder the two together. Takes more time and work. Hope that helps. Dont forget to order an extra superstar LED and replace your glovebox light too!

ECB, thanks for the compliments. Always appreciated.

Mark, I know, non stop upgrades to our beast huh. But this upgrade is way cheap compared to your other upgrades.

How much was the supercharger again? I wish I had your money.

Dan

Thanks. Sorry, I guess I am on a roll.

Why? Because this has actually been on my to do list for about 4 months now so it is actually "about time" for me.

Very cool! I'm going to do this too! I'll just try popping in one plug-n-play first, before I break out my soldering gun. But I'm an old EE, so maybe I will get the urge to use double bulbs.

I wish I hadn't purchased the Bimmian interior xenon kit last year. What mm size is the direct replacement? Thanks!

Hi Dan,

Can you provide a link to the bulbs you bought? I went to the autolumination web site but can't seem to find the right ones.

Thanks
