New M5/ porsche 993 owner

Wow after tracking my porsche 97 993 black cab for the last 5 years and doing drivers ed and some how becomnig an instructor ( Peter principal in action) just picked up a 2002 Imola Red/ Balck interior M5 with 51,800 miles. Original intent was to use as a fast fun daily driver. After driving it for a very short time i realized i cant wait to get it on the track. After seeing the link below it confirmed my future fun!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCvWa0T6XDs

This car is a blast to drive very different feel from the 993 but feels stronger to me.

Few dumb newbie questions :

1. My cars options only list, is this an average or low optioned m5. This list came from the dealer where in the car would i physically find the options ?

0776 Alcantara headliner
0465 Fold down rear seats
0752 M Audio with enhanced base

2. What would this car have sold for in 2002 ??

3. thinking about having installed a Valentine 1 Do you all recommend the use of the small remote display unit also be installed and if so where would you place the reomte display in the instument area .

4. i am driving around town with the sport mode on all the time for the sheer fun of it, reading past posts it seems to be okay, anyone disaggree

Thanks for any info you can share I look forward to reading the board and learning from everyones experience

I look forward to learning about the car . Hope to post pictures at some point when i can get ahold of a digital camera.

Dennis ( cincinnati area )

Welcome Dennis!! Congrats on acquiring what is arguably the finest performance sedan ever produced!! With your driving instructor credentials, you'll be a great (and sorely needed here) resource for "handling" issues and questions. As to your questions:

1. If you call BMWNA's toll free customer service # (on their website) and give them your VIN #, they will tell you what options your car was shipped with.

2. About $75k

3. If radar detectors are legal in Ohio (and Kentucky, since you're so close), you don't need it. It would then be a matter of personal preference; same as to where to mount.

4. I also drive full time with sport on. I like the better throttle response and steering feel.

Good luck and it's nice to see a fellow Porsche owner (see my sig) join our board. Many of us enjoy the best of both worlds by owning a Porsche, too.

Dan

There were only a couple of options for 2003 and I suspect it was the same for 2002. I would say you have an average option list.

In 2003, there was Park Distance Control (for a fee), a choice of interiors (free), and Alcantara (sp?) headliner was stock. Somewhere on this site is a comprensive list of the details available each year.

If my memory is correct (I bought my 2003 new), around $ 75,000.

No problem driving with Sport mode ON ... I do it all the time ... When the weather is good, I usually drive with DSC off.

Really appreciate all of the welcomes and information, interesting how many other also have 993 P. although I am in technology for my work I am technically challenged to get digial pictures of both cars but will work on it.
They look great nexct to each other in the garage ,unfortunatley to get the second space in the garage i had to promise to deice and warm up my wifes Qx4 in winter....well worth the sacrifice........My porsche was used on the track for De's and occassionally for around town( bought in 2000 with 17,000miles now only have 31,000miles), now I get excited thinking about my daily driver and look for places to go !!!!! Thanks again to all ,look forward to participating and learnig from the board
