Maybe A Nutty Idea, But Would You Buy A Back-Up M5?

You know I was just writing a post and I remembered I always wanted to ask this--maybe someone else already has??

Anyway, would you consider buying a second E39 M5 to keep along with your current one? Sort of the "heir and a spare" concept. Seriously though! Maybe someone out here already has two (or more ) E39 M5s?

Thanks for satifying my curiousity and helping me know I'm not totally mental for maybe wanting to do it myself!!

A $40k parts car, eh? Sounds like a great idea to me!

OMG how could I've forgotten him!! Maybe it's because the one is like a 'beautiful dream" or a "fantasy come to life" Definitely not the standard issue M5!! Did he ever come up with a new name for it?

HA HA, but maybe I would have to put it into driving rotation a good long time before having the heart to make it into a parts car!

Leave it to me to chime in here. Yep, I am one BMW freak. I have thought about it in the past...maybe a back up Lemans Blue beast?...hahaha...however, I came to my senses and spent all my extra money on modifications.

Cheers for sharing the idea Anita!

sooo, one for backing up, one for forward... mmmmm. (in my homer simpson voice)

I would say the though has crossed my mind, get a pristine 03 garage queen, but then i remember the issues like money and space. I think if i were in the market for an additional car, it would have to be different.

I had two e39's for a year or so, my 528 was supposed to be my daily driver, black on black, sport pkg, comfort seats, 5 speed, dinan suspension, etc. A really nice car. Except it was a 528, and i had an m5 at home in the garage. Eventually, the 528 sat, while the m5 was used daily. Made no sense, so the 528 went.

I have definately thought about it...still am!

We are soon to retire my wife's Merc SUV to kid/duty/dog car. There are so many good deals on pristine '03 M5s that I am tempted. Problem is, as much as my wife loves the M5, I think she wants something smaller, ala M coupe/M3 (or even 335)...

In reality, then, the extra M5 would be for me, when mine wore out. Nothing else is tempting me, but then again my car is fairly young. Maybe I can hold out for the F10 M5 (but maybe not, as I likely will not be buying it new at, what, probably $130K...).

At $40k, no, but at $25k it almost starts to make sense.
