Any E39 owners raced a E60 M5?

hi all,

a couple of us went for a quick blast over the wekend, and over the 2-3 miles left a m3 for dead... no one knew the roads, b roads in uk, several 90 degree turns, two forming a sort of chicane... now even allowing for difference in experience with the cars (others had only had their cars a short while, cf 3.5yrs for me) i think the problem for the m3 was lack of low down torque and inablility to hold revs...

which got me thinking.... the v10 is very similar needing to hold high revs... has anyone raced an e60 over tight b roads...

Horsepower sells but Torque wins........

Yeah I was out with Mohan on that day and the M3 was litteraly left behind!!

I have only had my M5 for a about a month maybe two and have only covered 100miles in her and the roads were relatively new to me,(driven them once before)

I have seen a striaght line haul between an E60 and E39..... the E39 pulls to start off (up to 60ish) with but after that the E60 reels the E39 in and then
pulls away

Looking forward to the March meet Mohan, lets see how the little TT keeps up

I think you are referring to the E39 Dinan S2 vs. E60 M5 run.
The E60 M5 has a lower 0-60 mph(100kmh) time than stock E39 M5.

How can the E60 M5, tested by C&D at 4.2 sec from 0-60MPH, be beaten by a stock E39 M5 than can barely get 4.8 sec from 0-60MPH. Am I missing something?

The E60 M5 is much faster than the E39. The Dinan S2 M5 has a lot of mods and 3.45 rear end which was able to hold off the E60 during the low end, but high-end, the V10 is just too powerful...

In the race with the white dinan S2 (a board member) vs steve dinan's E60 (at the time more or less stock), the e39 actually stays ahead until well into fourth gear, or about 120mph, before the e60 passes it and takes off.
