Fixing broken electric window motor?

front passenger window stuck open about 8". It will roll down and up but will not go past certain point. Tried buttons on drivers and passenger side, same result. Checked fuses in glove compartment, didn't notice anything. Any particular reason the motor would stop at a certain point?

Is there anyway to manually roll up the window? Timing of this sux because not only do I park the car outside I have to wait until Tuesday because of the holiday.

Only thing I can think of is that the motor thinks it has either reached the top, or something is interfering with it, and is stopping upward travel to prevent injury. Anything fall down the window slot, or is the window hard to move, making the window think it is encountering a foreign object requiring it to stop??

I would speculate that if you could pull the interior door panel off, you could access everything and get the window back up.
Regards,
Jerry

Doesn't sound like a defect in the motor. Chances are high that the regulator is broken or misaligned. Roll the window up until you have enough to grasp both inside and outside (palm it), then have someone press the window switch up and help the glass upward. If that doesn't work, try removing the door panel like Jerry mentioned.
Good luck!

Exclamation

Speaking from experience, should you need to remove the door panel be EXTREMELY careful to reseal/replace the plastic vapor barrier EXACTLY as you found it or it will leak and fill the interior footwells with lot's of water. This is a chronic issue with E39's.

sorta the same thing

My problem is exactly the same but in opposite directions. The window will go all the way up but it stops about 4-5 inches from the top like it thinks its all the way down. I pulled the door panel off and the vapor barrier (c4m5 what do you mean replace it exactly as before? reapply?, I may have gotten ahead of myself but I got a little too ambitious and wanted to get it fixed) and it kinda looks like the regulator is misaligned but I dont know how to reset it to a lower position. Any body run into this?
