Power loss on the freeway ?

So I'm on I-85 the other day doing about 75-80, slowing down a little bit, downshifting and revving high, and back to 4th and 5th, pretty much having some fun but certainly nothing crazy.

All of a sudden, up in the 5-6,000 RPM range the power was gone, maybe 1/3 the normal power and the engine/exhaust was making a deep, grumbly sound, almost as if i was in 6th gear going slow and trying to get power from the engine. I got home, turned off the car and let it sit for several hours. I took it back on the highway, gingerly, and got it up to high revs and the problem was gone, the engine actually seemed extra jumpy and powerful.

Does any of this sound familiar to anyone or is it a known issue?

For some reason, the car went into "Limp home" mode. Check the codes.

Your sudden change in exhaust tone and power drop seems to be some of the signs of CPS failure..
