Advice on dash message area pixels starting to go? - The Unofficial BMW M5 Messageboard (m5board.com)

I've heard of this, and even seen this being posted on the board but without doing the tedious search method, here's my situation at hand, car is a 2003 model, has 12, 800 miles on the clock. Just got the car back from Dinan located in CA, from the S3 conversion project, so it's blatantly obvious that the car is no longer in it's stock form. This is an electrical or electronic issue/problem. BMWNA shouldn't DICK with me over this problem, right??? It has nothing to do with Dinan's work or attached parts. For those who had this pixel problem what was your car's maileage when you started losing the readability of the center info screen on the dash board which can display; mileage info, date, fuel consumtion, avg. miles per hr, miles to empty range, timer , etc..........
What did the BMW techs do to resolve this issue? What's the procedure to attacking this problem? Will they take apart the dash to access the info screen, and replace it with a new improved part ???

Mine comes and goes. It hasn't given me grief in nearly a year, now.

They can be repaired.

It's only irritating as it's there, in your face, every day. If it was an intermittent passenger door ground light, you wouldn't even post.

I thought the reason you pay all that extra money for Dinan parts is that it won't void warranties and such with BMW. They shouldn't give you a problem then, right?

Well.... even though I don't believe this car exist.....lack of photo's and all.....

You should be able to get it replaced under warranty..... I doubt that the Dinan mods have anything to do with the pixels going out.

And yeah.... some of us are still waiting to see those pictures.....

Man, Robert... this is a brutal crowd, eh?

Provided the 4 yr warranty isn't up, this is a clear warranty claim- should be no issues. It is related to AGE not miles, BTW

My car was very near the end of the warranty when my problem appeared ... at first it was intermittant (multiple columns coming and going), now one column seems to be gone forever, and I am into my extended warranty (which I didn't have at the time it first failed ... took a pick with my cell phone to document the failure and mileage).

I had posted the info here, and received a contact from BMW NA ... and, they said it would be fixed ...

The dealer replaces the entire cluster and reprogramms the mileage numbers to match the old mileage. If you have black dial faces they will be grey. However, I am not sure they fix the cause of the problem and I am considering having it fixed locally by someone who will fix the cause of the problem, even if it costs money ... could be $ 300.00.

Robert,
If your car is under warranty, BMW should replace the screen, no problem. I had mine replaced last summer for missing pixels at no cost.

How does your car run now?????

My dealer definitely knows I have Dinan on my car and I had some pixel problems. They replaced the cluster under warranty no questions asked.
