SES light....System too lean...any suggestions ?

This is really strange that I get these codes now, after replacing the spark plugs just 2 days ago, OEM NGK. The old plugs were in bad shape (no oil deposits though) after only 26k miles.

The codes are:

OBDII codes P0171 and P0174 - System Too Lean, bank 1 and bank 2

I've pretty much gone down the checklist.

Checked the MAFS, they're in good shape.....150 at WOT in 2nd gear.

O2 sensors only have 30k miles. cats are OEM.

The last DYNO A/F ratio was about 13.

I've just reset the codes and will see if they pop up again.

Any idea what those codes might be associated with or cause them ? thanks in advance.

Just a thought but have atmospheric or weather conditions changed much in the LA area recently. Sometimes the car may need a bit of adaptation time if the air is cooler and more dense which would trigger the code, when you clear it does it come back? or is this just random?

Interesting theory there about the climate.....

I'd have to say that the weather it's been really changing lately, from day to night there is a difference of almost 40 degrees....Nights are down in the 40's and daytime is 80's...So, this might be a factor.

I've just reset the code about 2 days ago and so far no SES light.....hopefully it'll stay that way....thanks for the info

m a LTFT of 4.6% is probably a touch high but would not throw codes like that I would not think. I had mine at 11 and 12% and it threw those codes. Replaced MAF, O2, spark plugs and air filters and it dropped to about 1-2%

Air leaking into the plenum chamber? Fuel grade? You have lots of Dinan stuff on your car, so it may be more sensitive to fuel grade than a normal M5. Did you change brand recently? Or it could be that the new plugs are burning the fuel more completely, reducing the O2 levels in the exhaust gases, making the car think it's running lean.

My guess is that if you didn't change fuel grade or brand recently, that the car DME just needs to adjust to the new conditions.
