That KS sensor code is disturbing.... have you ever had an engine overheat, or close to it??

I don't know if the DME does this, but many cars will actually go to a failsafe when a KS fails electrically: they pull timing to avoid any possibility of destructive knock. If it does this you'll be down a tad on power.

KSs will fail due to thermal stress- just like a cps.

lets see if they return. My E8 was the same thing, once in a blue moon, finally did the PV thing

No, no problem at all so far. Owned the car since 11K on the clock.
I thought because of the cps sensor not working correctly could trigger this...

But I don't feel the engine down on power or the typical blatty exhaust note..

Regarding the KS, you're saying this also part of maintenance item just like CPS ?

Regardz,

J Irwan

So aftersome time today the code return, but without the knocksensor this time.

0B - Exhaust Camshaft Position Sensor cyl #5-8
A2 - Cranshaft/Camshaft Pos Sensor CPS cyl #5-8
B9 - Exhaust Camshaft VANOS Position control cyl #1-4
E8 - Evaporative Emission purge valve

I've been planning to stock this parts anyway, so I think I am gonna order the part.
But just an FYI, still not down on power.

Ard, is this B9 (Vanos Exhaust Position control) related to failed exhaust CPS ? What got me curious as it complaining about different bank and plus no driveability issue (knock on wood).

Regardz,

So I resetted the SES again.

Then take it for a spin even after 3 start SES light still hasn't come back.
As far as down on power even if there is its very small. The car doesnt have driveability issue. (There might be some different sound after 5000 rpm, but that just could be in my head after seeing these code. But the beast still pull strong below 5K rpm).

So I got home and SES still not lid yet. I decided to grab my Peake reader and guess what the code are there except the E8:

0B - Exhaust Camshaft Position Sensor cyl #5-8
A2 - Cranshaft/Camshaft Pos Sensor CPS cyl #5-8
B9 - Exhaust Camshaft VANOS Position control cyl #1-4

so looks like in my case te E8 is the one that trigger the SES light.

Maybe my CPS is on and off.. But I will still go ahead and replace it.

Regardz,

J Irwan

I don't think the CPS is a maintenance item. They go bad, you replace them. It isn't like a O2 or spark plugs or mafs that can go bad and be undetectable.... I hear people replacing all 4 cps just for the heck of it... I have 99k on mine and replaced one exhaust cps 2.5 years ago.

I am VERY suprised to hear you had those codes yet no CELs.... All I can guess is that the DME needs to capture a certain number of these codes before it triggers the CEL?????
