Coding Question on Replacement DSP Amp - The Unofficial BMW M5 Messageboard (m5board.com)

For any of you who have installed a used replacement DSP amp, did you need to have it coded by the dealer in order for it to work? I just bought one from a board member and want to install it while I have the OE amp repaired and custom upgraded (where possible).

BKH, my understanding is that no coding is required for components. PM Micah from BSW (sponsor) for further info.

I'm in the market for one also as mine cuts out now and then. The local dealer said that while the CD changers are repairable by ALPINE, the DSP amps are not. Was the amp overly expensive?

Thx LFC. aaronmiles - Many of the older DSP amps seem to run in the $250ish range. The newer ones a little more, to around $300. I'm sure they were cheaper before but probably many are failing now.

I'm trying to find one myself. The local dealer wants about USD$1,100 for one. They have been superseeded 12 times or something over the years.

I'll bump my WTB thread I think...
