I cleaned the MAFS last night on my recenly purchased 01 M5 with some electrical contact cleaner. I have done this many times before with my M3 which is a very similar procedure. The car felt much more responsive afterwards and felt like it was pulling much harder. It was a PITA to find the tool to get the 5 point security screws off so I just used a needle nose vice grip to unscrew and replaced the bolts with a more user friendly phillips head screw. The whole process took about 15 minutes. I would highly recommend for anyone with higher miles (I have 48K). This car is an animal in stock form...I am going to enjoy it for a while stock then let the modding begin...
JML M5
Me too - but, if cleaning them makes such a difference (albeit seat of the pants tested) surely new MAF's will make a better/longer lasting improvement?
Based on this logic I ordered a new set from David.
My car was very very slow big hesitation i was quite fed up with it .
Changed mafs today and the car Rocks i didn't want to get out of it today and looking forward to kicking it tommorow morning
I think i have the 100HP that where missing now .I wish i did that before i was late in taking the decision .
Iam very happy now
hey guys > i just got a 2003 M5 carbon black with 4000 miles on her > she is very strong and feels quite peppy compared to the others i test drove with higher miles....when should i change the MAF's....? > on average when do people start seeing a difference in performance...? i saw someone mentioned every 25K but is this # conservative or liberal....? id rather change new ones sooner rather then later so i dont' loose any performance at all. so is 25K a good time or should i change them sooner...?!?! thanks for any help - much appreciated !
