How many miles on delivery

I was curious as to the eight miles on my odometer upon delivery. What happened in those eight miles I will never know, but let's see how many miles were on your beast when it was delivered . . .

Wow, that is a high percentage of deliveries with more than 10 miles on the car. It makes me suspicious. I wonder if those miles are before or after reaching the dealer. I made sure that I picked up my beast the minute it was ready. Call me paranoid, but you guys read the valet horror stories.

I picked mine up immediately too - I also told the dealer in advance that any more than 4 miles on the clock and I wouldn't accept delivery (it had just one mile).

mind you, that still leaves them room for some driving - have a look at this from jfm:

ciao

Too many miles

I had read some of the horror stories before I took deliery and specifically asked my dealer how many miles would be on the car. He said 8 miles. When it arrived it had 18! I didn't feel like I had any recourse, as my dealer is in NY and I'm in CA. I really believe they used it for "demos", as it sat at the dealership for 10 days before they put it on the shipping truck.

I rated them "poorly" in a couple of categories in the follow-up survey...now they give me really poor response to any follow up questions I have (e.g. registering for the M5 Driving Experience).

See ya, DanL

saw an M5 getting dogged

Iwas at the dealer talking to a salesman and saw a worker jack rabbit an M5 see smoke out the exhaust and I look at the sales man and he tells me technician is testing. That was a load of crap,he was abusing someones expensive car.I told the sales man my car better not have more than 5 miles on it.what sucks is they could still joy ride it. Here we are talking about how to baby your beasts for 1200 miles while some car wash guy.etc has just shorted the life span on your motor.this whole situation sucks since you can't do anything about it.

'98 540i/6--2 miles
'00 M5--1 mile
'00 X5--1 mile
'01 M5--1 mile
'01 Z8--1 mile
'02 M5--?????

I have had great relationships with the BMW stores where I have puchased my cars. They have even told me when the Waggoners truck was arriving so I could be present when my vehicle rolled off the truck. I have even driven the car into the service bay for instant PDI and delivery. I ALWAYS pass on dealer exterior and interior prep. I wash, wax and clean the cars myself. In most cases I've pulled the spacers from the springs and removed the plastic seat covers. Hell, I PDI'ed my last M5 while the service tech watched me! Lastly, I always perform the test drive with the tech in the passenger seat. My protocol has become so standard, the dealers have a mental check list when my car comes in.

MJ you do it right, there's no better way to take care of your Beast than to do it yourself.
