Delivery Question on my 2002

My 2002 is scheduled for production the week ending September 14 (week 37)! What sort of time frames have people on the board seen from the date of production to actual delivery? I am taking delivery at my local dealer in Minnesota. I am trying to keep expectations in line, but am hoping to get some serious miles under my belt before the snow flies....

Mike, I've noticed that the delivery time is 4-6 weeks, seems like it's always closer to 4 rather than 6 weeks.

I also have a early Sept. production date but I was not told what week the car will be built. MGMN, did your dealer tell you the week or did the information on the bmwusa owner's circle page tell you that. I was only told that the car would arrive early-mid Oct.

RM5,

Here is what I have learned so far. When you place an order, a production number is assigned to the vehicle. Your dealer should have that number for any specific vehicle that has been ordered. The vehicle will be assigned a VIN number only when it is actually being built. However, the production number can be used to determine the scheduled week of production. I sent an e-mail from the BMW Owners' Circle web site with my production number, and they quickly responded with the scheduled date of production.

Would you mind if I asked you if your number is lower or higher than 6878221?

Thanks,

Harry,

I've got a number that starts 688...I don't know if they are sequential, but I would guess that they are. Looks like you might have your car before me! Let's stay in touch as we learn more about actual production status. Good luck.

Exclamation

Guys,

Earlier this year a bunch of us (who took delivery of our '01s during the Spring) posted our data on a thread called "Order/Production Summary". The thread died out, mostly from lack of input, but it's still available. There was also a thread called "Current Production" with some good info.

There is a lot of data re list to ordering to shipping to delivery, including how to track your ship!

Check it out and post if you are so inclined.....Good Luck!

Regards...
