E39 Bentley Manual

Just wondering how many have purchased it and find it useful?

BTW: I ordered one from amazon.ca for $125cdn shipped to my door.

I like having one and have had them for my previous bimmers and find them useful for the little things.

I have the two volume E39 manual, but can't say it's ever been useful. It doesn't cover the M5 at all so it only applies to non-M5 specific things.

I also have ETK/TIS on CD which is much more useful than the Bentley for an M5. I got the CDs on Ebay.

Unfortunately, they won't cover any of the mechanicals of an M5 ...

So as an example, if you looked at the front end torque specs they would be different than a 54i Sport?

Rear seat replacement and rear suspension work different?

The only owners manual I need is this board! You can find out any info. that you want (and then some).

I don't have a shop manual for my M. I have been too frustrated in the past with manuals. They either over simplify or over complicate things.

I have the bentley manual and have used it occasionally. Like others have said, no specific S62 mechanicals, but a lot of the theory is the same, gives locations for bolts etc, suspension and what not. Worth having in the library. It is amazing how much is documented on this site, that is always my first search.

Thanks.

They are software components of the computerized system that the dealerships use. ETK has all of the part numbers for every BMW since the E36 sorted by assembly group with exploded diagrams. TIS has all of the repair procedures, SI bulletins, Torque Specs, etc. that the dealerships use.

There are plenty of copies available on Ebay for not much money, just search on ETK TIS.
