Creaking steering column

Hey all, just wanted to see if anyone has ever had this problem...it's intermittent, but annoying nonetheless. Sounds like a creaky door when column moves up/down..mostly down.

Usually only happens when you're starting the car...not sure if there's something behind the cowl that can be lubricated, and I'm not even sure how to get back there...but there must be SOMETHING that can be done to alleviate this?!?

Thoughts? Opinions.
Thanks.

in the kick panel piece below the steering column there is a big foam piece that surround the movable steering column, i would check to see if the noise was coming from the column rubbing on the foam

I've got the same creak when the column moves down into position after start. I haven't investigated yet - will post when i find anything. I searched on realoem.com and saw that the motors/tranmissions drive two shafts (one for vertical and one for horizontal), hopefully don't have to try and find a good lubricating point for those! Hopefully its the foam - thanks for the tip, veilside02.
