For all of you out there that have after market exhaust systems on your M5, which way did you choose to have them attached and why? Any pros and cons?

Welded on is a better application to avoid any rattle or leaks at later time.

It also depends on the situation such as:
1. How long are you keeping the car?
2. If you are thinking of replacing it again later
3. If you are selling the car with or without it later

If you chose to clamp it, just make sure they are tight.

Even if you weld it on and change it out, it is no big deal to do so.

Mine' are welded. Is the Boss thinking of getting a pair of high flow mufflers ?

Tri-flows are clamped on - it works great, took 45 minutes and $65 dollars........

I have done many exhaust systems from the header plate back to the tips.

What I find is best is to weld on flanges that let you bolt the exhaust system together.

And a tip: if you extend the forward exhaust pipe a 1/4 inch past its flange, you will never blow out a gasket.

I'm not sure how my exhaust is connected now, since I've had it take on and off so many times... but at one point, it was clamped and the spot welded....

yeah mine is clamped on...
and you can actually see the damn clamp because the mechanic didn't have enough room to flip the clamp upside down =(

I have welded both the B&B's when I had them and the X-pipe that I know have on the car. No problems with the welds and the cost was low.(under $60)
