Steve Dinan will be at M5 Driving Day at Sear's Pt.
Steve Dinan and his sales manager, Steve Crawford will be coming up to Sear's Pt. on Thursday to hang out and answer some of our frequently asked questions about our M5s and modifications. I am excited about that and I think everyone else will be too.
Paul, great job! It should be imformative talking to Dinan.
Moe, at the Sears point ALMS race on the Saturday a bunch of us Bimmers had the opportunity to do a parade lap around the track. One of Dinan's employees was driving his personal M5 in the parade lap. While staging, a bunch of us were talking to him and checked out the new prototype of the headers that were on the car. He said they were still tweaking the design but that they were getting +40 HP from them. He said that the fit was extremely tight and it required dropping the front suspension and lifting the engine a little to get them mounted. It's probably going to be a real expensive upgrade, but so far it is the only bolt-on/chip modification that I know of that will give you some real horsepower gain.
I was also at the Sear's Point race talking with the Dinan guys about their 'test' M5 in the staging area before the parade lap. I think the +40 HP included the full exhaust system and CAI. They alluded to more HP from intake trumpet (inside the airbox) tuning, ceramic paint on the airbox (inside and out), and a few other "secret things" that were in the works. We asked if the combined output was 450 and they smiled and nodded upwards implying the new mods would be higher than that.
I know they have also been working on a Supercharger kit and are stuggling through US and Ca. emissions. I am sure it will produce way more than 500 HP.
They also let me hold one of their new Dinan wheels. I think it was the 18 x 9.5" which weight about 16 pounds -- considerably lighter than the stock wheels.

By the way we will have a driver's raffle at Sears Pt on Thur., and the prize looks like it will be a "Dinan front strut brace for the M5", compliments of Steve Dinan. I have already had mine for awhile and am very glad I got it.
