Mods...how long until?

I was wondeirng how long you guys would suggest waiting until doing major modifications. Assuming that I keep the incoming car (not sure, maybe, maybe not), I'm going to do a full on Nowack job, plus the ACS DFC system. My question is, how long to wait until going through with this? 5000 miles?

Dan,

I'm holding off the "major" mods until I've reached the 1200 mile service. What I mean by mods are the shortshifter, stage 3 suspension (dinan) and the exhaust (dinan also). I'm not sure about the other stuff though. The only reason I'm holding things off is so I would have a basis for comparison before and after making all the mods.

I did put on the "visual" mods when I first got the car such as the HID foglight bulbs, dinan front tower strut, etc.

Dan,

If you don't mind me asking, how are you doing the Nowack upgrade? Are you sending them your engine in exchange for another or can the work be done in the US?

Re: Mods...how long until?

Dan,

Does this mean you've decided to buy a new M5?

I would suggest you do Euro delivery and leave the car with ACS and Novack, you can drive the car how long or short you want before the mods and you don't have to break the car in advance.

Cheers,
/Johan

Johan: it's definetly a consideration, and if I do get one, I think I might have to arrange for a European delivery (ie cancel the one that is coming in and renegotiate). That would be best as I can leave it with those guys, have whatever work that needs to be done finished over there, and then cart it here.

It's still a consideration, but I'm looknig at it very seriously. I think it would be AWESOME to have a Nowack 500 with the DFC. Adjustable suspension would be AMAZING!

So about the DFC...does it tend to oversteer, understeer, what?

Well Dan,
You're gonna be back in the loop again after getting your beast.

As far as modification goes, I would just wait until the brake in period is completed. That way you know that you can pretty start enjoying it. 1200 miles won't take that long for you to reach, right?

Dan, please keep us advised as to your progress. I too am considering European delivery with a stop at Nowack for the full treatment and I am very interested in knowing how you do. I had the very same question about how long to wait before letting the folks at Nowack have at it. You may want to consider asking Nowack if they have any preference/requirements about when they will work on it. Their e-mail is info@nowack-tuning.de or there is a consultation page on their web-site that you can fill out.

Good luck!

Normally this would be right but the Novack mods requires a break in too, so then you would have to do it twice. Wouldn't want to that, right?

That car really sounds amazing!

As for DFC it is pretty much as normal in the softest setting which mean some understeering. This setting is for bad roads, city and speed limit type of driving.

In the intermediate setting the car is almost neutral and haven't noticed any understeer yet, the car also is much more nimble and feels very good. Also very stable in really high speeds and I mean very high speeds!

In the Race track setting the car is very nimble and well balanced, it steer where you point, immediately!

Still haven't tried the car on track but I am really looking forward to it.

Cheers,
/Johan
