CPT8000 cell phone and VR dealer installation cost?

Can anyone tell me the total cost for parts and labor from there dealer. I was quoted $2400 for parts and labor. This seems a little high.

Thank you

Mine cost $2070 including tax ($595 for the phone, $695 for the installation kit, $320 for the voice recognition system giving total of $1610 for the parts, $320 installation (4 hours) and sales tax $140). The cost of the parts matched those listed under accessories on www.bmwusa.com. So your quote does seem a bit high.

Anybody know exactly what is the difference between BMW's version of the Motorola TimePort and that which can be purchased at the local cell phone store?

I just upgraded my plan, and bought the new Timeport for $83. It pisses me off that BMW hoses us for another $512 for what seems like a brokerage fee!

According to a local dealer, he had a customer cause a short (not sure where) by using his own phone in place of the BMW phone. Is there a way around this?

I was quoted $1928 for parts and installation.

My understanding from the parts department at my local dealership is that the non-BMW models are different enough from the BMW version that the non-BMW models will not work with the BMW system. I can't confirm whether their use would harm either the phone or the car's systems.

You may not be comparing apples and apples. I think there is an optional compensator that might be the difference in price. I paid about $1900 dollars for just parts including the compensator and installed it myself. This also was with a 10% discount.

Mark

I found the part number for the compensator in another thread: part # 84-11-0-026-681

Like stageraider, mine included the
 • phone kit,
 • installation kit, and
 • voice recognition kit.
No one even mentioned a compensator.

Re: CPT8000 cell phone and VR dealer installation cost?

Seems high - be sure to use the BMW CCA discount - Labor is several hundred dollars To see what they have to do take a look at how I installed it at http://www.geocities.com/jcirinci/elect-install.html

Parts is Parts?

Jim

On your installation site, you only listed three part numbers.:

84 11 0 136 468 Installation Kit w/SES module
84 11 0 026 681 Compensator (1900 MHz, backwards compatible w/all phones)
84 11 0 017 787 Compensator Installation Kit (E39)
Thus far, my installation seems to be requiring at least the following:

Phone Handset Kit: (phone, battery, belt clip, and charger) 84-11-0-030-157
Installation Kit: (control unit, phone cradled, adapter harness vehicle bracket) 84-11-0-025-692 (This may be the wrong part number for a NAV installation)
Compensator (1900 MHz, backwards compatible w/all phones) 84-11-0-026-681
Compensator Installation Kit (E39) 84 11-0-017-787
Voice Input System (voice recognition) 84-11-0-136-468
Why the discrepancy? Why do I need the extra parts you did not list?

Jim

Re: Parts is Parts?

Jim you are absolutely correct, you will need the additional parts. I've neglected to include the CPT8000 part numbers. Unfortunately I'm on the road right now and can't get access to my invoice from the dealer. I'll try to call the guy in parts to get the information. FYI - your points about NAV/non-Nav and 2000 vs. 2001 - the parts are different. My parts are all for the 2001 w/NAV. If I can't get through to him, I'll post the information on Saturday.
