FWIW, some people on the M3 board have reported that the update software is buggy and won't load on some cars, or the cars run poorly afterwards. The consensus there seems to be not to do the update right away unless you are up for registration renewal and need the smog test. They want to wait a few months to make sure the update software bugs are worked out first, especially if it requires reflashing of aftermarket software (other than Dinan). Unfortunately, I think mine is due this January, but I may try holding off as late as I can this year in case the bugs affect M5s, too.

"Is it the sounds that make a BMW a BMW? A BMW is designed to be heard, felt, experienced. So our engines sing. Our steering talks back. And we insist on offering manual transmissions in nearly all our models for drivers who crave them. The result is an almost telepathic oneness with the car. Just as surely as you can hear a BMW, a BMW hears you."

I just got mine for our cars yesterday.

Since the M3 has stock S/W, it shouldn't be an issue at all.

I think I'll update the M5 (as well as getting some other things fixed) and then drive it for a bit to see how much I can feel the difference without the PC software. Then I'll contact PC and get the upgrade re-installed...

I checked with my Service Advisor, Brian at BMW of Sterling (VA). They will need my car for a day and a half to do the program upgrade. Then I will have to do the header install and PC93 reprograming that it will need anyway.

So I just had the Beast in on Friday for a CD Changer. The $tealer did the update automatically. I had spoken to both the Dealer and my Indy about reflashing the software, both said no. However when I got the car back, it was running like CRAP idle felt rough, no power, throttle was not really responsive, even with sport on. Immediately called the dealer and left them a message about it. I am hoping the car will adapt over the next 25 miles? Has this happened to anyone else?

thanks,
gavin

arggggggggggggggggggh

The things you regret to find out when not reviewing the message board first.

So last week- I had a fuel gauge problem. Took the beast to the local $tealer, but also got the Recall notice in the mail the night before. Told them to do that as well (my friggin mistake not to read the board first), not knowing the Dinan Software would be erased.

I let the lady drive the car last sunday while aimlessly going no where in particular- The car had the sudden jerky "is it out of gas" "um... easy on the clutch and give it a bit more gas...." at around 2000 rpm.... Note: she isn't a rookie manual driver....

Last night took the beast out to stretch her legs since shes been in bed in her garage the past few days- but after warming up the car and traveling about 5-6 miles, as I turned left- again about 2000 rpm, the same hesitation... like i was a rookie with the clutch..... or sippin fumes...(which i wasn't)

I don't know if I should be hoping its the stupid software update, or if its the MAF's.

Since I have to take the beast back to the $tealer Friday (they didn't have my fuel gauge in stock) I will definitely moan to them about this... I definitely want my Dinan Software back- It hasn't even been a month...

Stats on beast 03 with 39,900... That I was told by a couple inspectors before purchasing, that this beast was one of the cleanest and well kept) so thumbs up on purchasing it...

I'ma go read the million mile thread(s) on MAF issues.

NEil

Had the recall done today on my '00 with 39,500 miles on the clock. No problems to report. Then again, Florida doesn't do an emissions test.

Question for "Jon" and other members.............

I just recieved my notice in today's mail. As most of you know, my car is currently at the Morgan Hill, CA Dinan building, getting the S3 conversion. I'll have to call Dinan tomorrow and talk with them to see what they have to say about my car's situation, since Dinan does "special" software programing when the blower is installed. i would think that the BMW DME recall/reflash would wipe away the custom S/C software program from the car, true???
Last, Im surprised that no one posed this question, can this recall affect the overall power of our M5 motor. Can this reduce the horse power?
Thank you.
Robert

Yes the DME recall will wipe away any aftermarket software in it.

But will it have any effect on a stock motor?
