When I picked up my new (to me) CPO'd 2003 today, they had to do the reprogram before they would let me have the car. Took about 1 hr.

Powerchips is well aware of the situation as they are reflashing a customers DME from an E46 M3.
Good to hear. Thanks, Jon. I've just sent a message to Powerchips asking how they want to proceed.

"Is it the sounds that make a BMW a BMW? A BMW is designed to be heard, felt, experienced. So our engines sing. Our steering talks back. And we insist on offering manual transmissions in nearly all our models for drivers who crave them. The result is an almost telepathic oneness with the car. Just as surely as you can hear a BMW, a BMW hears you."

Question from the software challenged.

If after getting the BMW update I install the Dinan s/w, will I wipe out the BMW new code?

Should we wait for Dinan to issue updated s/w that includes this or does this affect a part of the program that the Dinan update does not therefore allowing them both to function?

When Dinan software is installed in your car it only changes specific data. What this means is that in a case like this you can take your car in to have the emissions update, then have the Dinan dealer reflash the Dinan software. You will now have the BMW update as well as the Dinan software. If you had previously purchased the Dinan software you will not be billed again as we already have your vin on file.

Thanks!!

Jon,
Thanks for the heads up! This may be a stupid question... I left tape on the wires attached to the plugs, labeling #1-5 so I could easily plug in after getting my DME back from Powerchip. I did this knowing I'd be sending my DME back to PC when I have my headers installed (couple of months). When BMW reflashes will they have to access the DME like I did? If so would you suggest covering my tracks so the dealer isn't aware of the PC? I'm still under warranty....

Thanks!!

Chris

Jon, thanks a lot for the post-- your timing could not have been better! I took my car in this morning to get inspected, and the garage had a problem reading the OBD for emissions! I'll bring a copy of the pdf you've attached.

Chris,

BMW hooks up their diagnostic computer for flashing through your OBD2 port. They will not remove the E-Box cover to remove your DME.
