Wrecked E-60

I rarely visit the E-60 section here, but there's a freaking AMAZING photo of a crashed E-60 today...something like "Brother crashed his car". As much as I (and most others here) bash the E-60, it obviously has the safety thing down.

Here's the link for those too lazy to check it out otherwise. Really quite a wreck:

Still waiting to hear back from the original poster on just what transpired. While we may be inclined to think the e60 saved his life, looking at the photo objectively, it appears the roof collapsed, which could also suggest structural weakness. Until we hear the facts, its hard to judge.

Edit: I just looked at the photos again... it looks like the vehicle sustained a very large oblique crushing force. The airbag deployment may have been key for survival. Looks like we can chalk one up for BMW safety engineering.

That's how not to drive your M5.

well looks pretty bad. went through the same a couple of years ago. My sister drove my dads M3 off an embankment (fell asleep and over corrected)
She walked a way with two stiches. Funny (or scary part was the AIRBAG did NOT deploy) Broke my heart, that was in DENMARK, in the Euro M3...was replaced with an E39 520i......by comparision quite a slowpoke !

The airbag is only meant to deploy under very strict circumstances, mainly a certain speed frontal crash only.

Just look at the 3rd picture you posted? The airbag wouldn't have helped her at all, she was in no danger of hitting the steering wheel as the seatbelt caught her. The wheel airbag wont help when the door and roof are pressed in so I'm afraid your lawyer would 'own' no one.

You would end up with a large lawyer bill in your mailbox.
