Anyone have experience with Dinan S package?

I just bought a 2003 Titanium Silver M5 on tuesday that has 4k miles on it, and i LOVE it. so now im looking ahead to upgrading it. i would really like to get the Dinan S package (Stage 2 Engine Software; High Flow Cold Air Intake; Free Flow Exhaust; Front Strut Tower Brace; Signature Series Floor Mats; Dinan Deck Lid Badge; Serial Numbered Dinan S Plaque). Does anyone have any comments criticisms or recommendations?

Thanks alot,
Geoff

Hey Geoff-

Congrats!

Plenty of info here on the relative merits of Dinan packages versus other equivalent mods.

Was there a prior owner on your car? I hope it wasn't a "BMW demonstrator"....

Welcome-

A

Thanks ard,
Unfortunately the dealer that sold it to me never really specified what the car was for. It was labeled as a "performance car" and was never titled. However, the exterior and interior are in perfect condition and i got a great price on it, so i'm happy.

I'd suspect that's 4K of hard miles (BMW performance driving school ?).....any warranty ? I'd not add further stress by modding until you have a better feel for reliability, oil consumption...the Dinan package is rather pricey, and does not add a whole lot of power (unless you go S3 (wicked fast), and thats more mod than you paid for the car!, I suspect)
You'll LOVED it, everybody does...havent met an owner that did not (yet)

I skipped the S and went straight to S2, but as far as Dinan products are concerned I couldn't be happier. BOth my M5 and my wife's 540iT (also S2) have been 99% reliable as far as Dinan parts are concerned. I had a JRZ shock go out som time after hitting road debris. Coincidence? Dunno, but my installer got it replaced under warranty. The most important thing to do is to find a good independant Dinan shop - someone who actually CARES about what they are doing. I called Dinan to get a recommendation in my area and that's how I found BMS.

Don't mess around with the S Package. Your spending a lot of money on items that don't enchance your driving experience. Buy the exhaust, SSK, and rear sway bar first. All offered by Dinan, and you should be able to get it all for about 2.5K. If you want to improve the cars performance, move ahead to full suspension (Stg.3), 3.45 differential, headers.

I would do SSK, suspension (stage 2), 3.45, rear sway bar/front strut bar then exhaust. Thats just me... Also non Dinan I would get rear rims for the front.

Go STRAIGHT to the S2 package, as the difference between how your motor runs now and the S2 version is extremely significant. The S2 is much faster than the stock engine. its worth it! if you have the cash.
