Has anyone removed their exhaust resonators??

I was curious, has anyone their factory resonators from their exhaust? Since most of the aftermarket exhaust systems are mufflers only that connect after the resonators, would it be advantageous to remove them?

I just bought the Supersprint mufflers and wonder how their resonator pipes would affect the sound. I would assume it would increase the volume. Is this correct?

Has anyone custom fabricated a test pipe that eliminated the resonators all together?

I believe if you do that, you will get a lot of noise and vibration inside the cabin. It will definitely be uncomfortable for you and any of your passengers especially during a long drive.

          Definitely not recommended.

Yes...when the Tubi was installed, the factory unit, from the cats back was removed. The Tubi DOES have resonators built in, though.

I think that if you did not have a resonator(s), you would experience an increase in noise and the cabin resonance would not be nice. On a Shelby Cobra, sure. On the M5, nah.

          Adrian and Dave,

Would you think that the Supersprint resonators would increase the loudness quite a bit, but not have any extra resonance compared to the factory resonators?

What would be the advantage of getting the Supersprint resonator pipes versus leaving the factory units? I would assume there is some type of benefit of them or they would not make them. Right? Thanks.

Dave, I was curious, why does the exhaust go from two pipes after the cats and resonators then converging into one then splitting again into two before the mufflers?

          Sandy

          Sandy,
I honestly haven't dealt with Supersprint exhaust system yet so I wouldn't really know the answer to that. Technically, when a company replaces the resonator is for the air flow factor and making it less restrictive.

That design that you were talking about is called the "X" pipe which gives a better performance than the straight through pipes. I'm not really technically incline so I don't really know exactly how to explain it to you other than the "X" pipe has been proven to generate better air flow and control the back pressure as well.

          Sandy,
As Adrian stated, the X pipe is there to enhance flow. When the two pipes converge, the effect created increases the flow rate. This is very common as is an H pipe in aftermarket upper end units. Will the SS resonators make the exhaust a cat back or are they just resonators that need to be welded on in place of the stockers? If it makes the unit a true catback, then I say go for it. You want to replace as much of the factory piping as possible to get better flow. Keep us informed.

          Adrian and Dave,

Does the factory exhaust utilize the "X" pipe design or are the pipes separate?

I am researching if the Supersprints use the X pipe design. I believe they connect directly after the cat, but don't know what the pipe configuration is. If they are separate, is it not worth it to install them in your opinion?

          I did...

I did and then put them back on. THe noise was to loud...even for me

They really do not impeed the air flow (other than upsetting its flow patern)

I would leave them on or your car will be obnoxiously loud (IMHO)
