Question regarding Dinan S2 software with factory intake?

I've read several threads now that say CAI systems are not worth it and dyno results show the factory intake system as flowing as well or better. I've also read that cone type intake filters pull in more hot air and end up degrading performance rather than enhancing it.

Given this, if the dealer would do it, would installing Dinan S2 software with factory airboxes work? Would I see an advantage over stock or S1 software? Would an exhaust help?

My goal is to increase performance at lower speeds, so would like a bit better response in 1st and 2nd and a higher rev limiter. Improving high speed performance is not a concern.

Thanks,
Jasper

jasper.........

It really depends on who your dealing with. The dealer might be very strict and say no, since you don't have the required Dinan parts to jump up to the higher level software or if they are lax then they might simply do it for the money, and not promise you any results and no refund.
More than likely they will not do it as they have to input data into the "MIP" software program downloader/uploader. The prompts ask the installer a series of questions, which have to be answered along with the car's VIN #, mileage, current existing Dinan parts, etc........ so either they lie and chance the risk of getting caught by Dinan and lose their relationship with Dinan or they might be penny wise and dollar foolish and do this for you at the risk of getting caught. Dinan's contract is very strict and serious about breach of contact or voilation of their rules. based on this alone I don't think they will risk their business relationship with Dinan.

When I took my beast to get the Stage 1 software, I asked the same question. While my mechanic was willing to do it, he cautioned that this could result in constantly setting off the SES light and might actually have a negative effect on my car.

What he said was that the Stage 2 software was calibrated for vehicles that have the CAI and free flow exhaust installed. Installing the Stage 2 software without these upgrades would create a set of parameters that the software is not designed for.

Use Dinan software ONLY at the stages recommended by Dinan. If you want more low-end grunt, try a 3.45 diff. There's no cheap way to make a lot more torque from the S62. I'd also be wary of increasing the rev limiter too much. Dinan raises it to 7300, which has been fine for my needs.
