          Compass in rear view mirror

Does anybody have the digital compass in the top right corner of their rear view mirror? What is the ordering code and how much does it cost?

If you select emergency in the NAV window it shows not only your location but direction of travel as well. It is fairly quick and accurate. More accurate than the Lincoln type in that it displays degrees rather that e nw w etc. Just remember 0' and 360 is north, 90 is east, 180 is south and 270 is west.

there is an aftermarket company that makes them... I don't recall the name right now but I can try to find it. I doubt it would be a good trade for a Beast's mirror since we have other electronics in there. (rain sensor, alarm system cherry light, gps antenna?, etc.)

I think modles for other vehicles (like my Tundra) cost about $200. (but don't quote me... )

BMW produced their own (well, they have a OEM do it anyways) and it's available for the X5....I assume it would work on an E39 as well. Someone check the E39 accessory catalog, it could be in there. It's $299.

I thought I had seen it somewhere before...

BMW Individual. I wonder how much more the individual program costs.

Just talked to parts department at local dealer, they said not advisable due to rain sensor and other electronics. Hope this helps.

Interesting, because the one for the X5 has two models: One for rain sensor, one without...I highly doubt the wiring is different between X5 and E39 (as far as mirrors go)....anyone want to be a guinea pig? If it didn't work I'm sure you could sell it to an X5 owner...

I wish BMW reps would be honest and knowledgeable to answer our questions correctly!
