So I tried to pickup the M5 I committed to buying (I can still back out as per our terms) on EBay yesterday and had a really horrible experience. It's a loooong story (cliffs at end)......the end result is that I'm still in the exact spot I was Friday night
I got up early this morning, got to a BOFA and got me a certified check. I start driving down to Birmingham (I live in Nashville) and my AC cuts out about 20 miles outside of Birmingham. No way am I letting this keep me from my M5 though.
So I drive for the next 2 and a half hours in 100deg+ heat with no AC. My arm gets INSANELY sunburned. I finally get down there and there's the gorgeous M5 sitting right out front. But wait....there's nobody around and the gates are closed! I call the dealership owner's cell phone and she says she was taking care of her grandmother with a stroke in the hospital and she'll be over in 45 minutes.
4 hours later.....she hasn't arrived. She also isn't answering her cell phone. No returned calls or messages or anything. I've been standing outside in the Birmingham heat for 4+ hours at this point. I finally reach another guy that works at the dealership and he's in Memphis and can't reach her. She seems like she's dropped off the face of the earth. So I call the Birmingham Police and Alabama state troopers and they haven't had a single accident with a Mercedes (what she drives) reported across the state all day.
So, I take the only option I have and get in my car and come back to Nashville. Completely wasted day. I touched my car and got to stare at it for 4 hours and never even got inside of it.
Furthermore, I STILL have yet to get a call from the woman who owns this dealership!! If this wasn't family health related, I'd be going ballistic! And I hate to say it, but a good businessman (read between the lines in that statement) would have called NO MATTER WHAT and at
least said that they couldn't make it that day. No harm no foul. As it was, I was completely ignored and forgotten. All I needed was a 5 second phone call explaining that she couldn't make it. I wasn't given even that.
(Mind you, about 20 other people stopped by the dealership and were shocked to see it closed. Many of them were previous customers who said that the business was excellent and I would do extremely well to do business with them)
I still think I'm gonna get the car but they are gonna bring it up here and I'm going to get a bigger discount. Today was a waste of my time and I want my Saturday back.
Cliffs: Drove to Birmingham after my AC cut out. Woman selling car never showed up at dealership she owns after I waited for 4+ hours.
