I have a 2000 M5 that is now 6-1/2 years old with 38,000 miles. I really love this car and would like to keep it for at least another few years. I have had relatively few problems (occassional SES light) and somewhat high oil consumption, but nothing major. Do you think I would be better to trade up to a 2003 or stay with what I have.
keep what you have....for the cost you'd need to upgrade to a 2003 it can pay for a lotta repairs or for fun modifcations
Agreed. You know what you have. Only reason to upgrade would be something like an S2 at a smoking price. Otherwise, buy the 16:9 screen, MK III or IV Nav, replace tailights, headlights and steering wheel. That is most of it.
Regards,
Jerry

From a cost perspective, I'm inclined to agree that you'd want to hold on to your car. No major issues so far and you don't know for sure what you're going to get with a used car. But if you're going to upgrade your car, it might make more sense to buy one with the upgrades on the vehicle, see where the difference is between your cost of upgrades to buying it already installed. Again the wild card in this thing would be the maintenance of the new car and how well it was taken care of.
Makes little economic sense to buy up (or I should say 'price up') to a newer MY. You're not even gaining much on mileage given that you only have 38k miles on your '00.

I agree. The 2003 I looked at had 38k miles so your 2000 with 38k miles is very competitive. You will spend a lot of money and you will have essentially the same car. If you have money to burn, then ......
