Low-mileage M5s...

Just received my July Roundel...As usual I flip through the classified ads.

2003 Sterling/Caramel (my favorite combination) with 1K miles - $62,500. Boy, I wish I was looking now. Even considered trading my car for it, but it has been so reliable and perfect, I can't bring myself to do it. My wife needs a new car; she wants an M3, which I am planning on buying used right after the new E90 M3 comes out. Maybe I'll work on her. That would be too cool - two E39 Sterling/Caramel M5s...

Then, two pages over I find a 2001 example - this one Black/black (and thus not for me) with 2K miles for $44,500!!! Maybe a typo, but if you want black and are looking, this sounds like the one.

Thus is the addiction of the E39 M5. Over 1.5 years into ownership and I'm thinking about buying a garage queen to keep until I wear my current one out!

LOL, I'm with ya all the way. I've been thinking about buying a "beater" M5 while mine continues its current duty (almost 5 years old now with 32k miles). I was thinking: 2000 M5 with maybe 60k miles and having it be my daily driver -- get a Tubi Rumore Plus, GC 450/325, rear bar, 9.5 fronts...make it more of a nasty beast to drive everyday but not something you'd ever want to take on trips.

BTW, I still recall your trip story to pick up your car, and I can't believe it has been 1.5 years ago!

That would be an outstanding deal if true. An '01 with 2K miles for $44,500.

My father and I used to have matching red 1987 535is's, it just turned out that way. Kind of fun. Our old SF mechanic bought both of them about 10 years ago, and his daughters are still driving both of them. Mine had about 180,000 miles or so, so they must be around 300,000 miles now. I'll have to find out.

Thanks, I can't believe it either...time flies when you are having fun!

Looks like I'll be passing on the '03...my wife gave me a funny look when I mentioned it to her. *She* didn't think two Sterling Gray M5s would be nearly as cool as I think! Funny, she loves to drive my car, but wants a smaller car for herself (we'll be keeping her Merc SUV as a utility car).

Oh well...I hope someone snaps it up.

Love that combo and mileage too - wish that was available when I bought mine 1.5 yrs ago (though it probably would have been $70K+). I had to "settle" for Sterling/black .

I just turned 20K miles on mine, and it still looks and smells brand new. It's become somewhat of a semi-garage queen, as I generally don't drive it in the stop-and-go commute to work. But what a blast on weekends and trips....

It's not possible to have too many E39 M5s. One day there won't be pristine samples to purchase any more, or at least not enough of them. I hope mine stays young and hot forever. I am still infatuated with her even after almost 3 years...
