UUC SSK & DSSR installed today

I had an appointment to have this installed next Friday, but couldn’t wait so I did it myself. Interesting note that my M5 had no jack supports, so I made a quick run to the dealership. They only had three so I made due.

The installation went smoothly and took approx. 1 ½ hours. The tips on this board were excellent and made my job easier (thanks all). I had no problems getting clips off at either end, but need to point out that trying to get the DSSR on the transmission side is all done by feel. The fit is very tight and trying to get the pieces aligned to insert the pin was the most difficult part for me. I ended up using a stubby Philips screwdriver to align the holes.

The shifter is very smooth and I don’t feel the notchiness other have experienced. No problem with any gears. Excellent product.

Hi all, I had UUC installed but after a while I heard a noise when going from 1 to 2nd and it was very stiff. I removed the DSSR and UUC short shifter went with Dinan short shifter - Noise is gone and feels much better not to stiff.

Thanks.

Nice job GL. i too installed mine myself. The board again, was very critical in making the installation go smoothly. This is truly a wonderful resource.
As far as comparing products, the UUC with the DSSR is far superior, IMHO, than the DINAN if for no other reason than the construction materials (no plastic base cup). I reviewed tens of related threads before choosing.

My guess is it was a damaged cartridge bearing. the bearings are not water proof and over time (depending on your driving conditions) water can get in there and cause damage to them, which can lead to noises and poor shifting.
