Advice how to remove the rear door panel?

I started today to replace my stock speakers with two sets of MB Quart speakers. Driver door, complex, but no major problems, but rear door, I could not get the panel off. It seems like connected somewhere in the middle, and the instructions I found on the web say it is removed just about the same way as the front door panel.

Anybody having experience removing the rear door panel? Is there a difference because I have the sliding rear curtains?

sdietric,

You shouldn't have any problems removing the door panel. Take the switch and the light out. Undo the door handle and twist it so that the panel come out. Pop the clips out around the perimeter of the panel then lift up.

I don't have the rear curtains so there may be another clip that needs to come out.

Bob

rear door panel must be held by something related to the curtains

thanks for the answer, and yes, that's exactly what I did.

I have been doing quite some wrestling with the door panel, normal plastic clips would have broken with that amount of force applied. There must be some kind of metal screw or clip that it holding the door panel in place.

I really assume it is related to the curtains, they were recently replaced at BMW, they didn't seem to have any problems taking the panel off, but now, I just wanted to replace the tweeters...

Here are some pics a fellow member posted a while back:

I replaced my speakers earlier this year and didn't notice much difference between front/rear door panels but I don't have the sun shades either. Good luck.

which glue to use for the vapor barrier

Great. These pictures were very helpful, thanks so much. I missed the two screws hidden behind the top strip.

One question, the vapor barrier seems to be slightly glued sometimes, but loose other times. Does it need to be glued all around.

If yes, which glue to use?

Last year I had a vapor barrier seal fail and water was leaking into my passenger side rear footwell. My car was still under warranty so I let the dealer fix it. If you search, I believe there is a complete write-up on how to do it and what to use to seal it. But if you are not having any water leakage it must be doing its job. Sorry for no help.
