Source for MKIV navigation?

I wanted to upgrade the navigation unit on my wife's M5. It has the MKIII unit (build date is 05/01). I saw a bunch of posts with about people buying it through ebay from a seller in Germany. If anyone could give me the sellers name / ebay screen name I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks in advance!

MKIV vendors on ebay

Hello...just upgraded my '01 M5 to MKIV through a painless purchase on ebay from sasch_berlin as I got that vendor through another board member who had no problem with them. I also got a unit from them that was on auction a few weeks ago..paid about $700 with shipping as I recall. Plug and play deal...be very careful that you get the right one and purchase from a vendor with excellent feedback. Other vendors on there with MKIV units include jch1511 and needanevo. I think they may have current auctions going. Also, be aware that you may have to purchase upgraded software..look for v27.1 as that is the latest..some come with that installed...as well as a DVD for North America. The DVDs are about $80 to $100 on ebay or $200 from the stealer dealer. I searched on ebay as follows: ebay motors>parts & accessories>car audio, video>gps, navigation and then limited that to bmw. Good luck..it is definitely worth the upgrade. My son used to laugh at mine because he has a new Lexus IS with nav and it put my MKIII to shame...no more!!

FYI: The update software can be found online for free. Check out www.x5world.com

As for NA Nav DVDs, copies and originals can be found for download if you are diligent or for around $100 on eBay.

I bought my MK4 from "naviandbmwparts" - no problems, quick delivery and also included an "evaluation" nav DVD in the deal. Think he has a 99,7 % positive feedback out of 900+ transactions, so seems a solid guy (from Lithuania).

Need to confirm a part #

Thanks for the input guys. I wanted to confirm a part # for the MKIV navi system. There are 4 units on ebay with the following part #:

6590-6920-182-02

Now I checked on realoem.com and that part # wasn't listed. The sellers all claim that it will work with an E39 M5 but I wanted to be sure. Can any one here validate the part #?

TIA!

Info I have- start at the bottom:

Roy wrote:
That P/N is one of the first MKIVs. Ask if the unit has 2 labels. The
2nd
label ,if there, will have the VIN of the car it came from and the dealer
can read that VIN and look up the options the car came with. SA 609 is
good
and SA 606 is bad (Radio Nav). If no 2nd label then you are at the mercy
of
the seller as to whether is is for a color monitor.

Miro,
Thanks for having taking the time to chat with me on this. I have
some
new information about the P/N 65 90 6 920 182-1 I saw on e-bay. I went to
the BMW dealer and inquired about which BMW model uses that unit. They
told
me it is used on a Z4 model. Assuming that the computer is coded for
color
monitor, do you think it will probably work on my E39? I will ask the
vendor to verify if it is coded for color monitor. In case the vendor
does
not know, any idea how to go about finding this information?

Thanks again for your help.

Miro <0@yahoo.com> wrote:
I don't think it matters, just make sure that the unit you buy will be
coded for color monitor.
That's what I think, you might want to check realoem.com for the right
part number also.

I have been surfing e-Bay in search of a NAV4 nav computer to upgrade
the CD base nav on my 2002 540i.. Every unit outhere is being

90 6 920 713 (I contacted a BMW dealer to confirm and they said that
unit is now superseeded by 65 90 6 957 604) The unit I was looking at
on e-bay has P/N 65 90 6 920 182-1. Is there any compatibility issue
one should be aware of before investing in those units? Can anybody
offer some recommendations or guidelines as to which part number will
work on my car? Thanks in advance for your support.

That's good news Mike. Thanks.

Good luck.

FYI guys, I have had Sirius in my 02/03 production M5 since August of
last year and my Mk IV NAV is:

65 90 6 920 182-02
HW 1.0.1
SW 1.2

So, you don't need SW 4.0 or higher. In my opinion, the most
important part of the Sirius compatibility equation is to have a radio
with late enough software to support the Sirius receiver.

Here is a (poor quality) picture of the sticker on my original
equipment NAV unit:

Thanks Adam! The ebay posting (see link below) shows a color screen but I'll check with the seller again.
