Installing a novelty item...starter button

I'm installing a Starter Button...yes yes I know...useless to some, but like I said, more of a novelty item.

Anyways, I yanked out the steering column anyone know which one is the starter wire? there are two green wires and one purple wire, just needed to know which one to tap into.

thanks!

The wire that connects to the starter relay is marked with RT in the diagram, That would be Red (Rot in german). Look for connection 5 at the steering column connector, there is often a marking in the plastic near the wire.

Are you putting a big Red button for the starter?

Like one of those Staples easy buttons hehe. Sounds like youre playing with fire to me I wouldnt want to mess with any of that wiring these cars have enough problems to begin with. So to use this button you will have to put the key in and turn it to run and then press the button to start or does it have some keyless recognition system where you just keep a fob in your pocket? Will you be bypassing the clutch safety switch?

I dont know of anyone who has actually installed one themselves...but Discovery Automotive has installed quite a few, maybe you can contact them and swindle them to give you some info.

If you do bypass everything, would you still be able ot use the 'code' feature in the computer? I would guess not since there will no longer be a #2 position for the key?

Why don't you just glue the key in?

Although I must admit it sounds very cool, just wondering about some of the functions you may loose?

Not really bypassing anything besides turning the key in all the way to start the car. Hooked up a wire to e-brake (so it won't turnover unless the e-brake is on) and to the ignition wire. It would be nice to keep the key in the pocket, press the clutch and push the button. Rather spend that money into something else. I know most people frown upon putting a push-start unless it was a standard item. I just wanted to do it, just to do it. And no, it's not a big red button.

If it works for you then go for it.

I for one will certainly be interested in how you get on and would love to see some pics when the mod is complete.

Don't forget to put the key in the ignition every once in a while to keep the key battery charged up
