You change your spark plugs every 4300 miles? Are you serious?

I am taking it to an independent for a good once over. If there is still a problem, back to the dealer it goes, because we do have a two year warranty on the work done.

Does your seem to run a bit rougher than before the repair?

No Mark - it seems to run very well frankly - your dark oil seems strange at only 1200 miles.

Best of luck

Excuse the attitude, I should have clarified further.

It seems clear that your intent was to advise that he sell it TO A DEALER AT AUCTION so they would get 'stuck' with it. While there is no love lost between me and dealers, it would likely be either a private party or a small indy dealer that would get 'stuck'...furthermore, they would probably NOT EVEN KNOW about the oil issue and would just sell it to a future M5 board member.

IMHO a poor suggestion no matter how you explain it.

its a suggestion, if you guys don't like it, that's fine. I still think it's a feasible and wise option.

Here's a picture of my damaged pistons at 80k miles on an E36 M3. This had a lot less carbon than the previous pics I posted.
looking down the plug holes on my motor, when changing plugs..they look FAR worse than that.

I'm not angry with you about that comment. I just imagine that with the handle you have (board name) that you come from a different environment..in terms of origins, compared to those born in North America. Granted, not all born in North America are full of fluffy goodnes. Point being, I'd imagine things are done differently there, in some types of things. And, as a form of compensation, I'd expect the buyer of such things would be very wise to look closely at what they buy, in that part of the world. And they are raised to understand that. Just a guess, but I simply imagine that you see things with slightly different eyes.

Everything balances out.

Edit: I just read your responses to your original comment. My comment still stands. Slightly different eyes.

Absolutely.

Somebody has to be the crazy one around here. Now you can sit back in your easy chair..and feel better about your really, really bad M5 habits. I make you look sane.

ok. Jig is up. I really am doing that right now (3rd or 4th set??), but I'm trying to get a handle on the enigine's behaviour (as the car is new to me), and apparently, these M5 motors need a decent bit of observation to keep potential issues under control. I'm just doing a tiny bit of initial-regular orthoscopic observation of the heart of the car, is all. When I'm well satisfied that the S62 that I am in posession of is behaving in a 'normal' manner, I'll buy a decent set of Bosch or NGK's, and be done with the plug game. I was told the coppers have a better than normal response characteristic when new..but die off soon. Thus the constant change. At least they are cheap.

Right now, I'm still having fun fondling my (new) car's naughty bits.

Are you f**ing kidding me? What is your point? spit it out, are you saying people here are more "honest" than other places? Dude, you haven't been around much have you? This is a capitalism, money defines what values are. We consume more than 67% of the world's resources, just 250 Million people, and you are talking about values? I thought I put an end to this discussion, but guess not. Well, this is my last comment on this thread.

Hey everyone,
Thanks for all the words of wisdom! I went into Santa Monica and spoke with the Service Manager-Keven. He was very nice and said he would see what he could do. I basically asked BMW to cover the cost of the engine tear down so we could see where we stand with the extended warranty company. I also spoke with Joe from The M shop very nice and knowledgable guys over there. I probably won't hear anything from BMW until next week but I will keep you posted. Some of you guys please have a great weekend drive for me... I will be on my bike
Thanks Brian

Does it look like this? This S62 has over 100k miles. Most techs would probably say that this is normal and looks fine for a high mileage motor. No issues due to carbon.
