I just changed my clutch, same problem as you..mine was miss shifting in all gears...get a new clutch so we can say mubarak!

The way you drive, it should still engage a bit compared to a full slip, so yeah u may need to drive a bit better but also your clutch probably doesn't have much life left if you have been driving it this way

For members with past experiences with clutch replacement.
How much will a new clutch cost + labor?
Are there any recommended substitutes for the OEM with proven reliability and performance?
Thanks

mubarak,

I'm actually surprised your clutch lasted 60K miles if you've been driving it the way you explained it. I think you'll see in other threads of not getting into the throttle until the clutch is fully hooked up. If you're on the throttle and the RPM goes up but your speed doesn't, time for a new clutch.

You need a new clutch. The stock BMW clutch is very small. The conservative organic disc they use to provide smooth engagement means it will not take heat or agressive use for very long. You need a bigger clutch or one with a more aggressive disc material, if you want it to last longer.

Just had one done at the dealer, someone else was paying. Including new flywheel, $2500 USD. Flywheel charge was $885, clutch kit $354, and throw out bearing and a couple of little parts were about $30. Labor billed as 10 hours. Independent will charge between 6-8 hours, parts can be acquired for less.

Other alternatives? Do a search, but Dinan is one option as well as a choice of different size clutches from UUC.
Regards,
Jerry

Red Line,
I would go with the UUC direct fit clutch, but I did not want to spend double the price. I paid about $400 for the cluth and alignment tool and had my dealer guy replace it for $500 labor. I trust him, although he's not a BMW mechanic, I asked the chief mechanic at my local dealer and he said it's an easy job in terms of the actual know-what-to-do, it is just lots of work. I let it break in for about 300 miles, and it feels perfect. I actually rarely use sports mode anymore, it feels good w/o it, with it is even better. So about $900 total. I also did not need a new flywheel, I have 29K on the car. Most cars you won't need a new fly wheel, but BMW only wants to replace both parts (at least my dealer), which is stupid. You can always resurface the flywheel as well.

I don't want to start a new topic about this, but those of you who have had the clutch replaced notice that it drives pretty nice w/o the sports mode? I used to use it heavily, now I use it maybe once a week.
