Cheap e39 m5-s in germany

There are alot cheap m5-s for sale in germany.
They are abot 13k-17k euros. Mileage is 50k-200k ( km ). Year is 99-01.
What you think, are those cars worth buying?
Is m5 still going after 200k? Help me

Because 750i-s have been like 300-500k on the speedo and still no problems..

would be good to think that. As long as a car is services regularly there is no reason why it cannot run for that sort of mileage. whats the highest mileage / kms anyone has seen on an M5 that is still running well?

That part intrests me too. Because m5 engine should be stronger than any 2.5l or something.
Tough i m intrested of buying it somewhere else than Germany, because autobahns are īnt very good for car health i suppose...

I think I recall seeeing a number like 375k km being thrown around here on the forum, as the highest known mileage on a working E39 M5.

Wrong, M5 breath. Autobahns are the best place for an M5 with off Autobahn driving thrown in ... The only real problem with buying a German spec car, is the conversion to US specs ... If you haven't done it before, don't attempt it. And, the only general problem with German cars is the possibility of rust ... 'cause it snows there, remember?

the Germans don't use salt on their roads and the winters are very mild.

I was there about two years ago now..and I SPECIFICALLY kept a sharp eye out for even the SLIGHTEST sign of rust on ANY car. I spent ten days looking!!

It depends , if itīs in north Germany then the cars may be rusty, but south cars are usually okay. The rust is not problem for me, because with 5-10 years the rust canīt go through the car body, just superficial rust.
I live in Scandinavia and here we really have problems with rust, have to paint car every time before winter.
So what you say, if i go to Bmw Service and make test there. It says the car is OK, then i go for it?

Sorry, I hadn't noticed you were in Europe.

If the car checks out, I would consider it ... but, I would make sure a "qualified" BMW mechanic said the car was a keeper.
