Recommendations for a GOOD dealer + Indi around Chicago Land

I have been taking cars to Laurel for a few years now and have been overall satisfied but ever sinnce i picked up the ///M5 i feel like the staff there is not up to par to service this car correctly. (i dont think the mechanics are knowledgeable enough)

I am the type of person that likes to establish long term relationships and so far have used the same exact SA and only taken the cars to Laurel but i think i need to try someone else. However, if i find someone that is good then i will probably end up bringing all of my business to them.

For those of you in Chicago, could you please suggest where to go and who to talk to specifically. Car is still under warranty so i definitely need a good dealer to take care of it. I need the indi just in case the dealer does not figure out the problem and i end up having to get an outside consultation.

if you dont feel comfortable posting the SA name on the net please PM me and tell me who to talk to specifically and who send me to them. I want to deal with someone not only knowledgeable but someone who will not end up telling me - "well, your squeek and rattle warranty ran out 10 miles ago so there is nothing i can do..."

thanks in advance.

I highly recommend Patrick BMW in the western burb's of Chicago, off Golf Rd. They do the Dinan upgrades, and have very professional service.

Just had a mini service done for $700. Oil change, filter change, all other engine fluid's changed, break oils, and new break pad's.

Perillo

I have been using Perillo for the last 6 years - first for my 328 and for the last six months for the M5. Angelo(AJ) is my SA and is excellent - see my recent post on Inspection II and a new clutch for example. I am curious to see what/who people recommend for an indie.

I've had nothing but great experiences with KNAUZ since 1995.

If you do a search on "KNAUZ" you'll probably find more good testimonials. I haven't read anything negative about them on the board yet. Though their work may be pricier than some independant. I don't know.

I've also heard great things about Fall-Line Motorsports in Northbrook, again... talked about ad naseum already. Search for it. But they are really for aftermarket mods, not routine maintenance.

Very pricy, generally on target with technical diagnoses, top flight facility and responsive service manager. Some SAs are great (eg., Adam), others are snooty and you just wanna slap 'em. Knauz blew a couple of big calls over the years and when in doubt I visit Field's for a second opinion (Knauz default). If I wanna save a buck I'll let Knauz diagnose and visit Brown Motorwerks in Gurnee for the repair (competent if not brilliant indy).

I also would recommend Patrick in Schaumburg. I usually work with Chris (SA) and he is very helpful with lining up loaners and making sure the car is not washed. He also seems to have a good knowledge of the M cars and has always been able to get answers about what work was done when I had questions.

Fall-Line Motorsports in Northbrook. I mentioned them up above.

Though I believe that they are generally recognized as an aftermarket/race shop, not a place for a routine oil service. I hear great things though.
