Took my baby out for a spin yesterday

Well after finally getting my car back, I took my car for a good drive. I took the M6 north for 70 miles got off the motorway at Penrith then came back down the m6 and got off at Kendal, theres some awesome roads to open your car on there

I am totally blown away at how quickly this car can get to 140mph. It just does not stop. The thing is, the car just feels at home at this speed, totally stable.

Couple of questions if I may?

1) I'm on 3 green lights on my dash. How much is a service roughly?

2) How much roughly to get my car derestricted and maybe tuned?

3) Can anyone recommend a good company to derestrict/tune my car?

4) Is it worth getting the work done?

BTW....after putting in some miles I'm gradually getting better at controlling the gears and clutch. I never once got the clutch to slip.
Although I was going fast, I didn't drive it like a race car, I eased in the throttle. When I'm more comfortable with the car, I'll then take a step futher beyond that.

Dave,

I'm pleased to see you have your car back and are enjoying it.

In relation to your questions please advise the following:

1) Depends which service is due next, oil service, inspection 1 or inspection 2.

2) Are you mad!!! You have only had the car a week or two and your recent posts with regard to you taking professional driving courses etc. would be well advised before you even think about going faster.... I talk from experience.

3) See post 2 or use the excellent Search facility as well as looking at current Board Sponsors.

4) Obviously peoples opinions will differ on this question, but from my experience YES, only when you have enjoyed and appreciated this superb car as it came from the factory.

Enjoy your car.

C.

LOL I should have pointed out, I'm in no way interested in derestricting/tuning the car as of yet. I'm thinking maybe 6 months of driving the car. I need my money for other things first like a new set of PS2 and the upcomming service which is an inspection 2 by the looks of it.

Thanks
Dave

Inspection 2 varies quite a bit from Dealer to Dealer, but I would expect it to be around £600.00 +. IIRC your car is still under BMW Warranty and depending on mileage and your personal opinion I would consider a good independent who could be half that price using genuine BMW Parts.

I've heard good things about www.bmtec.co.uk who are not too far from you.

Keep us posted.

Its unlike you to ask a question or 3 !! I hope Hexagon dealt with everything??

Glad you are getting use to the car, frightening what speed comes up when you stick your foot down One tip - I would not quote figures as I recall some guy getting done because he had bragged on the radio about what speed he had driven _ I kid you not!! 140 is an automatic ban(a few months) and a large fine

You have 8 - 9k before a service is due - as Cableguy says you may want to use an indy if you are not going to renew BMW warranty, otherwise you have to use official dealer network, though remember to ask for 4+ discount for cars > 4 years old. As your beast is low mileage, you need to think about this carefully!

Re remapping, I said your car seemed to go very well so see if you can contact previous owner - you may already have it!! If not, there are a number of UK owners with remaps or who are about to have them so ask again when you wish to go ahead and you can get various members feedbacks. The main advantage is clean acceleration and removal of flat spots as well as 155mph limiter, not that I have driven that speed to confirm it has one!! In power and torque and dependent on exhaust/header change, you could see about 15bhp (remap alone) to about 40bhp.

Remember, to make a complaint to Hexagon - one thing and i might be wrong, I thought approved used cars had to be serviced and come with 5 green lights - might be worth checking as may have another hook to hang your hat on as they say!!

Keep me posted.
