They're cheap cause they scratch up the wheels, especially if you drive at high speeds.

Well, centrifugal force from the wheel rotating at high speed will cause the valve stem to flex, consequently causing your shiny new ///M valvestem to contact the painted surface of your wheel's lip. Go fast enough (not as fast as you are thinking either), and it will actually press in and scratch the paint.
centrifugal force causes the heavy valve stem covers to bend the valve stem over and hits the wheel. Stick with the regular black plastic ones, less weight and more of an understated look.
