I am considering visiting my nephew in NYC, but I am really not sure about bring the M5. Is there a place I can self-park w/o the risk of dings, damage, or worse? Thanks!

Lincoln Center parking lot. Best public lot in the city. However, they may take a dim view of overnight parking. You'd have to check their T&Cs. Second choice: Port Authority Bus Terminal public lot. They "close" from midnight to 5am (or something like that), but are OK with longer term parking. Both of these lots have large spaces, are well-patrolled and have a high proportion of high-dollar cars.
Where in NYC? Manhattan is a lot different from the Bronx.
I got to NYC pretty often, and I never take the M5 into the city. I usually drive to Greenwich, park it and take the train into Manhattan. IMHO, no car is safe in NYC.

"I am a professional driver. This is a closed course."
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely with a pretty, well preserved body. The goal is to skid in broadside, tires smoking, body all dented, leaking fluids, gas gauge on empty, throughly used up and worn out, proclaiming, "Holy sh!t, what a ride!"
Sorry, I should have been more explicit. I'll be in Manhatten uptown and mid-town. I am surprised to hear Port Authority though since last time I was there (quite a long time ago) I felt like I was missing out because I left my crack pipe at home!

Gotta go with trackstar on that one. I live here, so I have no choice unless I move out to the burbs. Leave it at home.
Rent a car! NYC is a mess when parking comes to mind. When I'm in the city the wifes SUV is the vehicle of choice. When we pull out of the garage there is always a new scratch or scuff , but then again thats what the family truckster is for, right?

The M5 is a special car, but remember to most people it's just a 5-series. New York is home to a lot of nice cars. Just park it at one of the GMC garages (http://gmcparknyc.citysearch.com), stay away from Central Parking Systems, and you'll be fine. I've parked with GMC at many locations -- they're more reliable than most.
By the way, I live and drive the M5 in Manhattan. True, it's been debadged to avoid attention, but just don't leave it on the street overnight (I did once and it was broken into), and you'll be fine.
Thanks a lot, guys... appreciate the tips. I think I'll leave her at home.
