Dynoed my beast yesterday

I dynoed my 2002 M5 for the first time yesterday to establish some baseline power figures before I install the tubi and powerchip 93 software. I brought the car to Imported Cars of Stamford and ran it on their Dynojet with fuses 17 and 30 removed per the postings by other board members.

Pretty happy with the stock baseline. The car made 340hp and 328tq to the wheels. We did three pulls and the numbers were consistent within 1hp and 1ft lb on each pull. So, definitely a nice strong motor to begin with. We'll see how much the mods add. I'll post before and after dyno comparison when it's all done.

If you can get the dynojet runfiles, I'd be interested in seeing them.

I will get the file when I go back to dyno the car after installing the mods. I can tell you though that the torque curve is as flat as Kansas from 2500 to 5000rpm. Peak hp occured at 6600rpm, just like the factory specs say.

If I apply a 15% drivetrain loss to the rear wheel numbers, I get exactly 400hp and 386tq, which is more than the factory quoted output. It would seem that the factory power ratings are on the conservative side....

That's about right, for the most part, the drivetrain loss on the E39 M5 is about 15%. Most dyno runs posted here on stock Beasts are in the mid 330s range, there were a few slichtly over 340, so your's is on the strong side.

The previous owner had a Dyno done of my M5 with Dinan CAI and exhaust and maybe dinan software, before switching to powerchip and he got 348 hp and 348 torque to the wheels. Does anyone know where all that torque is coming from?

By the 15% calculation that's about 409 hp (believable) and 409 lbft of torque ! Where it all coming from? That's 40 ft-lbs over stock.

Any thoughts? I need to have it dyno'd again.
