Got TV but no Satnav

Hi All

Just bought early M5 (1999) with Tv, but no sat nav. Has anybody successfully retrofitted the satnav module and antenna etc? Or is it just not worth the effort

In the Uk, and there are a fair few old E38 Sevens showing up with nav modules dying for a new home!!

Also I want to change the 4:3 screen for a widescreen. Anyone done this - easy to do?

Thanks all - very excited!!

JJ

widescreen is no problem.. buy the unit and checkout bimmernav.com for how to install it.

As for NAV, I had a friend of mine who tried, but sold the car before he finished. I think all he needed to buy was a bracket for the NAV computer and a replacement cable that ran to the boardmonitor. Should be easily do-able.

I suggest you check http://www.realoem.com and check out what you have and what a NAV'd car has so that you can see what you are missing.

Cheers,
Aaron

Just remeber that you have to change the TV module as well to get the 16:9 aspect ratio. I did the mistake now I am stuck with a 16:9 screen with the sides cut off. I have no Nav myself and I think the parts will cost about £1k excluding the screen

Ouch - £1k sounds a bit high for my blood - maybe a stick-on-the-screen jobbie for the sat nav.

Re the widescreen -

Interesting about the TV module - thanks, I hadnt thought of that. So on this basis, does the actual control module still work, or is all of it in the wrong aspect ratio.

Thanks

The TV module still works but only in 4:3 and all your OBC display will be in 4:3 a well.

Oh

I thought this could be fixed by BMW plugging into the car, and telling it the different screen size. I may be wrong......

Some people say that but I still have set to find someone that can do it. I have contacted MegsModules but they have yet to reply... see link below.

Good advice - thanks. I guess my car must be the early type, as it doesnt offer me an option on the display size, and also is a 1999 car. So I may need to find a donor car in a scrappers and buy the TV, the module and the screen. This may take a while!

in 99 the TV module was just a 4:3 unit I am pretty sure. The LHD and RHD TV and NAV modules are the same, as are the monitors I think (16:9 that is).
