Might I suggest you give Ground Contol a look. We have installed this system on many board members cars and have had nothing but positive feedback.

Ground Control E39 Suspension System

Please let me know if we can answer any questions for you.

I wonder what they weigh? A light weight wheel really makes the car feel more nimble. I went from 4 rear oe wheels with 275's (oe rear wheels weigh around 25-26lbs each) to dinan wheels which weigh around 17 lbs each and i could really feel the difference. I'd bet a 19" wheel weighs considerably more than the oe wheel.

The M5 doesn't need necessarily more speed, but on that back roads how can you make your car keep with the Porsche?

Suspension? Sway bars?

Please give me your incite. I am considering selling my M5 to go back to a Porsche, but the M5 is so nice. I just want that go-cart feel again?

Is it possible?
I have the JRZ coilover set-up.Sway bars & camber plates(Overkill unless you track the car) and I can tell you that the lean/roll associated with the car has all but disappeared. And this is on stock rims/rubber.......

I think you are right, I also think its faster once you get up to speed, 60,80 and 100. I recently killed a 997 cab. I am pretty sure it was a Triptronic, but I was very surprise with the right gear how much fast the beast was!

Go Kart, it will never be, sorry. Given everything equal, the 997 should be faster around the twisties. It sounds like suspension will make a BIG difference, now the question is which one?

997 0-60 is rated at 4.1 to 60 and the E39 m5 is rated at 4.8 The 911 is much easier to launch I got my money on the 911 from a stand still. That said, i was just refering to around the back roads.

I don't think that the 997 is 0 - 60 in 4.1. According to Porsche and Motortrend the 997 does 0 - 60 in 4.8 and the 997S does it in 4.6. Still it would be a good straight stand still race, but the Porsche would kill us on the twisties.

997 has better traction off the line thanks to the tail engine.

Feel free to disagree, but the most important aspect of handling is balance, not grip. Having said that, I believe the first mods to better M5 handling are camber plates, wider front tires (275 all around is best) and an adjustable rear sway bar. That will significantly reduce understeer and let you use more of the grip the car already has. AFTER that, I'd go the rest of the way with shocks, struts, front sway bar, and front and rear strut braces.
