On Board Computer/Display Glitches

About once every 3-4 months or so, my on-board copmuter acts weird. It loses the date & time info and all trip history data (avg. speed, mpg, etc.). After I re-enter the date and time, every thing is normal again.

About once every 1-2 weeks, I notice a horizontal line on the screen instead of the radio station number. However, when I turn the car off and turn it back on, it behaves normally again.

The two problems appear to be unrelated (or at least they don't occur at the same time.)

Has anyone experienced either of these issues?

My OBC has also done this 2 or 3 times on my 2000 with 14K miles on the clock. It seems to be random. I've just reentered the time/date and everything is OK. I have not had the "line" problem you describe.

I've had those problems as well. The radio "line", the loss of date & time, and the OBC data fields going blank (one or two at a time), then recovering some time later.

You can get the latest software loaded into your car, but these problems aren't fixed.

Welcome to the joys and sorrows of having lots of computers and software in your vehicle. Software has bugs. Just hope and pray that the engine management system was written by a different company than the OBC/Nav/Audio system.

I posted a couple of days ago about losing time and date --- did not experience the radio 'line', at least as far as I recall. I've got 3500 miles on the car and this happened at 2000 miles -- only once so far.

In contrast, with my 540i, in 103,000 miles I've never had the computer reset unless the battery was disconected.

I also have the radio line that seems to occur once or twice
every couple of days. The fix is not always turning off the car
and turning it back on. My entire radio/nav system is being
replaced this week.

livenupe,

John Roberts BMW is the dealer. The replacement
apparently has to come out of Germany so it's been
on order for a while.
