hi
im looking to change my gearbox oil ,diff oil and brake fluid can someone
advise me on whats the best oils to buy ??
i got my diff oils seals changed about 1000 miles ago, will this mean the diff
will have new oil because of this??
I had my diff seals replaced- 31k for the input and right output seals, then at 49k they did the left output seal(duh! dealers...) all under warranty. They did NOT change the fluid.
I just changed it (I posted a UOA on the fluid removed) and used 'stock' BMW diff fluid. (Also used BMW MTF-LT-2 manual tranmission fluid for the gearbox.)
Lots of discussion on other non-BMW fluids you can try- given that I had no performance issues and the UOAs showed no abnormal wear, I feel OK with the BMW fluids.
ok gents thanks for the info,i was hopeing they would have to drain down the diff to change the seals!
so how much oil is required for the gearbox and diff??
one other question i got a new engine fitted under warranty a bout 12,000 miles ago would the mafs have been changed do yous think? the car had 68.000 on the clock at the engine time of change??

Gear box and differential will take about 4-5 qts total, not each. The OEM MTF-LT fluid is fine as ARD pointed out, but much more expensive than Redline which is as good as, or better, than original.
The MAFS would be itemized on your bill if they replaced them.
