40 whp gain!

Well i made it to the e34 group's dyno day today at edge motorwerk. Thanks for organizing it Greg. This is the same shop i had done previous dynos at, so things should at least be consistant...

Throttle bodies, cams and some head port work netted me 40hp at the wheels. Pretty much what i hoped for. My last dyno was 353 (after headers and software), this one peaked at 394.Did 3 runs, first was 392, second was 393, third 394. Torque peak was similar at 323, but was a bit flatter, than last time (i.e. over 300 from 2 - 7k rpm).
Dinan claims 38 hp (crank) for the throttle bodies and velocity stacks, 11hp for the cams. While the heads were off, it was pretty minimal labor for the port work (about 6 hours extra), dinan said that would be worth about 7hp. Seems to be in the ball park. The dyno guys said if i want to break 400whp, on paper, come by when it's dryer out side (it was raining today) really early in the am (i.e. cold)...
This was on 91 octane california gas as well, so there is a little more potential there. They overlayed my dyno on a recently ran e60 M5, my car had more torque through the entire rpm range and more hp until about 6k rpm, when the e60 peaked later at 415whp.

Interestingly, my last dyno had a dip in the torque curve, where i lost about 20ft lbs, between 28-3500rpm, just after the headers and powerchip. That dip is gone, smooth torque curve, which is consistant with what i've felt. The car has felt stronger at the bottom end with the dinan software (done awhile ago, before the tb's and cams).
I'm pleased, it's definately power gains i can feel!

That's awesome news! Didn't realize that throttle bodies and port work could cause such change... pretty amazing when you compare it to the E60... but isn't 415 rwhp kinda short for the E60's 500 crank HP?

Wow! That's fantastic. If you have a gas station nearby that sells 100 octane and are willing to go to the trouble of mixing it with 91 octane you should consider going to "higher octane software." With your mods, based on my personal experience with Powerchip 94 octane software, I can virtually guarantee it'll be worth it.

Superb, would love to see the graph and have the full spec including clutch etc, any chance of doing a 0-100mph or std qtr

Marvellous, a normally aspirated racer

Nice report/result Mike. Curious - i don't see cams and porting in Dinan's S2 pkg. Can you contrast your engine mods w/ the S2?

Very impressive gain! So Dinan did all the installation and porting? and it is all Dinan parts?

Nice work and exciting stuff, to be sure.

I am curious about the condition of the heads.
Did they report any carbon build-up?
Did they take the opportunity to clean any secondary air passages?
Did they put larger valves in?

Thanks,
Salty.
