Before I spend the download time, is this the one with the rocket car? If so, it was evidently produced in South Africa and they had to pull it over Subaru's objection of "fastest sedan" claim.

Too bad - that was a great ad!

        Subaru is fastest Sedan?

I read in the post about BMW withdrawing their M5 commercial...What do you mean the Subaru objected to BMW stating they were the fastest sedan????

        dmcgibbo:

The 2001 WRX STi with AWD is able to beat the M5 to 60, but I'm not sure if it can to the 1/4 mile as well.

OMG! well what i don't understand then is why people on the forum complain that their M5 might not be as fast as a porsche gt2 or some other kind of expensive sports car but I haven't heard anything about a Subaru (maker of legacies and outback...) beating the M5 which is kind of ironic to me. Are M5 owners embarrassed? How much does that Subaru cost and how come no one cares that a Subaru can beat their 70k dollar M5? I don't own an M5 and it is my dream car regardless of the Subaru fact but I just didn't understand how I had never heard of that info... Thanks

You have not heard too much about it because we are embarrassed about it but we don't deny it. Also keep in mind that only the WRX has come to America and not the WRX STi yet. Therefore, in America, the M5 is still the fastest production sedan.
This should keep the Americans happy at least for another 1 year.

I loved that rocket commercial...there was another homemade M5 commercial that I thought was equally as good if not better in some areas.

Is the WRX Sti a four door sedan? I thought it was a 2 door coupe.

dmcgibbo: the WRX Sti I think is only around 27K and yes It can beat an M5 but so what? M5 is still the M5 and its the best!!

Ya the WRX is a 4-door...

that thing has 280.0 bhp @ 6400 rpm 275.1 ft lbs @ 4000 rpm and 140.42 bhp per liter

Dont know the acceleration times to it tho...
