BlueTooth Users - What mic are you using?

Firstly, I would like to sincerely thank boardmember sdietric for giving me a great present - a complete brand new Bluetooth kit from www.bimmernav! It was extremely kind of him, all for me finding him a great LMB/LMB beast through this board a couple of months ago and helping him out on the MKIV upgrade - all of which was quite pleasurable for me anyhow. Thanks again S!!!

I installed the BT kit, which was a breeze, less than an hr. Two things I am missing, which I guess are optional - a jumper connector which Martin at bimmernbav is sending me as I write, and a mic. sdietric has the same BT kit and he ordered the 'upgraded' X5 mic from Martin. Even though this was marketed as the top-of-the-line mic, it is really subpar, folks on the other end of the line are having a hard time hearing. So I wondered if there is any better aftermarket alternative, perhaps even a DIY job through Radio Shack?

Curious to here what folks are using and how happy they are with the mic setup.

i'm using the mic that came with the bt kit. Works well, i've been told the sound quality is as good as when using the handset. It can be installed backwards, which messes up sound quality, any chances?

btw cosio, where you the one who was interested in the uuc illum. shift knob?
Mike

Cheers, mike! I don't think we installed his mic the other way around, as it snaps to a 3-pin connector and I believe there is only one way it will fit. Can double check.

Yup, you got that right, I am interested in it. Did you decide to let it go? If so, just PM me. Thx

I had the newer mic installed from the get go. I heard of the sound quality problems that some users were experiencing and I didn't want to take a chance. I'm using p/n: 84 31 6 938 762.

Mike (sportmodeon), yes, you have the 2006 X5 mic (part number ending on 762). That is what my friend has (or at least is supposed to have), so maybe we screwed up the positioning on the mic as Mike O suggested. Will check tonight.

Mike, that is exactly the culprit - we installed it at night and didn't pay attention to the directional arrow, so now when we reversed it it works great!

Difference is night-and-day, SANguru, you prob have it wrong.

Directional arrow goes in the direction of the road, i.e. arrow pointing towards hood, and cables facing rear of car (kinda akward as far as the bales go, but this is the right way).

Do you have the 762 mic (those are the last 3 digits of the part number)? Martin claims these are from the 2006 X5, but the manufacturing date was in 2004, so wonder what gives here...
