Stop-tech advice/help

Looking at the stoptech big brake kit with 4 pistons front AND back, problem is im gonna be running on stock wheels for a while and from what i can tell they dont fit with stock wheels? they fit the front but not the rear? why is this? is it just the rear caliper wont clear the wheels at the back so i just need some spacers and the rear caliper will fit??

Help or advice would be great on this matter.

Thank you in advance...

Except there's no room for spacers in back, the tire will hit the fender.

Simple answer: if you want to use stock wheels, you don't use that kit. If you want to use that kit, you buy new wheels.

Check out zeckhausen racing, a board sponsor (link is at the top of each page)... pretty complete list of compatibility of each brake kit with each model and each wheel size. Plus you can call or write Dave Zechausen and ask him to confirm the fitment once you understand what you want.

As I understand it, it isn't just rotor diameter that defines fit, otherwise you should be able to fit the same front and rear- the offset in the rear is different, so where the caliper sits under the volume defined by the rim and spokes is different for the rear- hence the need to push the rim out and away from the rotor to gain more room. (Which creates rub issues on the outside/fender.)

Shawn,

If you want a 4-wheel kit that will work with the stock wheels (no spacers), you should order the following StopTech kit: 83-135-472G. That will get you a 355x32mm front kit with 4-piston calipers and a 345x28mm rear kit with 2-piston calipers.

There are no spacers that will make the 4-piston 355x32mm rear kit work with stock wheels. The 4-piston caliper interferes with the inside of the wheel, where it narrows toward the outside face. Any spacer thick enough to make the wheel clear, will also cause severe fender rub.

See: http://www.zeckhausen.com/BMW/E39_M5.htm for a complete list of all the brake options you have for the M5.

I have 355x32mm all arround, you need 10mm spacers in back, and problem is solved

You are absolute right, What I did is I have re-shaped the caliper ( shave the caliper a bit ) then I have painted it and install 10mm spacers in a back just to fit the stock wheels… I have no problem and it works fine with me ….

How did you manage to get a 10mm hubcentric spacer to work on the rear hub? The lip on the rear hub is 1.5mm taller than the lip on the front hub, thus preventing a 10mm hubcentric spacer from laying flat. Does your spacer look like this?

Or does it simply have an opening with no raised lip at all? If it has the lip, then it must be a 12mm spacer, not a 10mm spacer. If it does not have a lip, then your rear wheels are being centered by the wheel bolts and not by the hub lip or the spacer lip.

No fender rub problems with four adults in the car?
