All of have the same question nad the answer lies in common sense, personal preference, and tire ratings. The book is wrong, period. The door sticker is a good guide. I had Dunlops on my first M5 and ran them 41/43. I have Michelins on the second and I am running them 42/45. We have good roads here and I prefer the stiffer ride. If you have poor roads, your ride comfort at 43/45 will be terrible. The tire ratings on both the Michelins and Dunlops are 51 psi MAX. ALthough the guys at the performance center did not say what they were running, they did indicate it was near max. Running the tires below 39 is setting oneself up for severe cupping or outer edge wear IF you drive aggressively. If you drive like an old lady, then set those pressures in the 30s and enjoy the softer ride. At days end, the psi should be between 39 to 44 front, 41 to 46 rear. The rest is preference. Watch your tire wear and adjust pressures accordingly. If you go to the track, run the pressures up near max, but remember to defalte them when the pavement pounding is done...my 2 cents
